A Voice to Speak the Good News

First and foremost, to speak the good news we simply must care about the glory of Christ and others’ eternal destiny.  It is out of a heart for Jesus and others that we make it our ambition and mission to see as many as possible enter the Kingdom of God.  While there are skills to gain and gifts to use when we share with others, those are things that the Lord uses as we show others in word and deed, the love and truth about Jesus Christ.  Our desire is that “evangelism” should be as normal and natural in our lives as breathing.

Learn how to share your testimony

It is important to be able to articulate the reality of Jesus in each of our lives.  What Jesus has done through His life, death, resurrection and ascension in our lives is no small thing.  And sharing our story is not a trivial thing.  The apostle Paul spoke of his conversion in defense and the defense of the gospel to the greatest courts of Rome.  And it was convincing enough to silence his accusers.  Most importantly, the story is ultimately about the glory of God in Christ.  Each of us is living proof of that glory.  He is amazing and as our treasure, we should learn to boast about Him.  That is what a testimony is, boasting about the Lord.

As you learn to share your testimony, keep in mind that there is no substitute for prayer, of course.  Our friends do not come to Christ because we are smooth talkers.  Nor would we ever want to get into a mode of thinking we can talk someone into the Kingdom.  But most certainly the Holy Spirit will use you to create others anew as He did you.  With that in mind, here are some resources to help you gain this ability.

a. Becoming A Contagious Christian is a great workbook that will help you through the process of learning to present your story.
b.    There are numerous websites that will also teach you the components of a testimony and how to present them.  All have common elements and ideas to help you be more creative to express yourself.

Assemble a Prayer list of any number but you might set a goal to be praying for between 5 and 10 people that you want to lead to Christ.  You can do this two ways.  First, simply pray for them to come to know Christ.  Pray for opportunities to speak to them about the good news.  Or, enter their lives more directly and ask them individually how you can pray for them.  Make sure you follow up and ask them how things are going.  You can also ask them if you can pray with them about any circumstances they have told you about.

There are some very practical steps one can take to live a life of sharing Christ.  To do so we must be very intentional about organizing our time and lifestyle so that we are available to others by design.

a.    Be home when your neighbors are home.  Have some idea what when they get home from work or leave, or whether one stays home during the day.
b.    Be visible.  Sit in front of your house and hang out.  Many people take walks.  Be there to say hi.
c.    Be neighborly.  Take cookies, whatever.  Be there when they need someone to watch their children or pull weeds.  Invite them for dinner or dessert.
d.    Be interested in others’ lives.  Be aware if they are out of work or having child troubles.  If they are sick or have a baby, take food.
e.    Take walks and stop to say something to people along the way.
f.    Setting regular time aside to spend with your not-yet-believing friends.

Be ready to sacrifice for others. Even as Jesus laid His life down, so must anyone who desires to see others saved.
a.    Set aside a little money each week or two, and save so that if your neighbors need help you will be able to do that.
